The Foundation for Advanced Biomedical Research marks a historic turning point for the world of private scientific research by signing an agreement with FIR CISL to guarantee full rights, stability, and career prospects for the researchers and research technicians of the Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine (VIMM).
The new agreement, presented during a press conference attended by Giustina Destro (President of the Foundation), Nicola Elvassore (Scientific Director of VIMM), Giorgio Fracalanza (Labor Consultant), Raffaella Galasso (General Secretary of FIR CISL), and Paolo Marizza (General Director of the Foundation), puts an end to precarious contracts — such as short-term collaborations and freelance agreements — replacing them with permanent employment contracts that fully guarantee all legal rights every worker deserves.

“This new contractual model represents a real turning point,” emphasized Elvassore. “It not only raises the quality of research and the working conditions of our scientists, but it also transforms the Foundation into a center of excellence capable of attracting talent from around the world — an innovative, cutting-edge environment, unique in Veneto and among the first of its kind in Italy.”

This new type of contract, applied to all new hires, ensures greater job stability, social security protection, and professional recognition for those working in scientific research.

In addition, the agreement introduces highly competitive European-level minimum salaries, based on experience and role, thereby enhancing the value of researchers’ work.

“With the creation of this new contractual model, VIMM launches an innovative organizational framework that places researchers at the center, ensuring stability, rights, and competitive pay,” added Fracalanza. “Together with this proximity contract and the one signed by Telethon in previous years, we are laying the groundwork for a national collective contract for private research.”
This agreement marks a radical shift: VIMM not only confirms itself as a center of excellence capable of attracting top international talent, but also becomes a reference model for the recognition of researchers’ full professional dignity, ensuring them rights and stability.
Today, the Institute counts over 260 researchers from around the world, with an average age of 35. With this step forward, the Foundation reaffirms its role as a beacon and benchmark for biomedical research — combining scientific excellence with a daily commitment to building a more stable and prosperous future for researchers, giving them the recognition they deserve.

“With the signing of this agreement, we have achieved an important milestone for researchers,” concluded Galasso, “ensuring them a new contractual framework that enhances their professional growth and recognizes their scientific value within the national and European context.”
