Human behavior is complex and multifaceted, and it is studied across a wide range of disciplines in the social and natural sciences. To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we invited leading scientists from several key disciplines we cover to share their vision for the future of research in their respective fields. Our contributors emphasize the importance of broadening the scope of their disciplines to enhance ecological validity and diversity of representation, in order to address urgent societal challenges ranging from emerging technologies and new forms of interaction to sociopolitical upheavals, diseases, poverty, hunger, inequality, and climate change. Overall, these contributions highlight that progress in each discipline will require integrating insights and methods from others, breaking down disciplinary silos.
