Jeffrey S. Chamberlain is a Professor in the Departments of Neurology, Medicine, and Biochemistry at the University of Washington, and holds the McCaw Endowed Chair in Muscular Dystrophy. He is an internationally recognized authority in the field of neuromuscular diseases, particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). He directs the Sen. Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Center in Seattle, where he leads pioneering projects focused on the use of gene therapy for the treatment of DMD.

His laboratory has played a decisive role in developing AAV vectors for systemic delivery of the dystrophin gene and in designing “miniaturized” versions of the gene (micro-dystrophins) capable of being effectively expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle. His research provides a fundamental foundation for several ongoing clinical studies. In 2024, he received the MDA Legacy Award for his outstanding contribution to translational research in muscular dystrophies.
