The well-known scientist, born in 1957, is Full Professor of Medical Genetics at the Federico II University of Naples. Born in Naples, after graduating in Medicine and specializing in Pediatrics at the Federico II University, he then spent many years abroad, first in England and then in the United States where he held the role of Co-Director of the Human Genome Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In 1994 he returned to Italy to found – on behalf of the Telethon Foundation – the TIGEM (Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine), a center of excellence in Italian research, of which he is currently director.
