Mauro Giacca is a Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences and Director of the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences at King’s College London. He previously served as Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), a United Nations organization based in Italy. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Trieste and his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Genoa. His research focuses on gene and RNA therapy for cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on developing novel biologics for cardiac repair and regeneration in patients with myocardial infarction and heart failure. He is the author of over 400 publications in international journals and has received numerous research grants, including two ERC Advanced Investigator Grants and a British Heart Foundation Programme Grant. He is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences and the founder of several biotechnology startups in the field of cardiovascular medicine, including Forcefield Therapeutics and Heqet Therapeutics.
