Marcia C. Haigis is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2002 and conducted postdoctoral research at MIT, focusing on mitochondrial metabolism. In 2006, she joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School, where she is also a member of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging and the Ludwig Center.
Her research focuses on the role of mitochondria in aging and age-related diseases, such as cancer. Professor Haigis’s laboratory has made significant contributions to understanding metabolic reprogramming in cancer, identifying metabolic vulnerabilities in fatty acid oxidation control in leukemia and in ammonia recycling for the synthesis of amino acids essential to tumor growth.
