Mauro Vismara, a researcher at VIMM and affiliated with the University of Pavia, is among those awarded one of the postdoctoral fellowships announced in 2025 by the Fondazione AIRC for cancer research.
The aim of Mauro Vismara’s project, a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Lefkimmiatis’s laboratory at VIMM, is to investigate the involvement of the RIP3 protein in the regulation of cell death in experimental models of breast cancer. The results obtained may contribute to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor disease. The main goal of the study is, in fact, to identify vulnerabilities that can be exploited for the development of new pharmacological treatments against the disease.
Thanks to the support of AIRC, Mauro Vismara will be able to continue his research activity in Italy at VIMM, one of the few private research institutes in the country to have moved beyond contractual arrangements lacking adequate protections. His employment relationship is governed by a private subordinated research contract, which ensures full social security, welfare, and labor law protections, including coverage for illness, maternity and paternity leave, pension contributions, insurance, paid leave, authorized absences, and end-of-service benefits.
