global-health-festival

The second edition of the Global Health Festival, organized by Laterza Publishers, has an interdisciplinary approach between medical sciences and human sciences. The protagonists are important exponents of the Italian and international scientific and cultural world. Within this edition, given the circumstances, particular emphasis is placed on research for the cure of the new coronavirus. The socio-economic consequences of the ongoing pandemic will be discussed in the same way.

The first of two events organized by the Advanced Biomedical Research Foundation – VIMM will be held on Wednesday 11 November at 9 am as part of the Global Health Festival. The VIMM Principal Investigator Nicola Elvassore will talk about: “Research on Covid-19. Approaches and methodologies” . Elvassore’s study aims to reveal the susceptibility of the gastrointestinal tract of adults and children to infection with Sars-CoV-2, through the development of an in vitro model of the various tracts that make up the human gastrointestinal system. The researchers used Organoid technology. This project will also allow the testing of drugs aimed at treating the gastrointestinal tract, in order to study molecules capable of preventing viral infection, so as to prevent transmission.

Sunday 15 November at 4 pm it will be the turn of our Principal Investigator Maurizio Corbetta. The professor will speak about: “The challenge of neuroscience”. The themes will concern the physiology and pathology of neural dynamics but at the same time interesting questions will emerge on decision-making processes and questions about the relationship between brain and mind, between medicine and ethics.
